Fostering discussion, creativity, cultural diversity, and a range of artistic approaches, the Artist in Residence Program at Nemacolin offers an opportunity for artists to live at the resort and share their works in gallery and retail spaces, in workshops and classes, and within the landscape of all Nemacolin offers. Resort guests, members, and associates are invited to engage with Nemacolin artists by observing their techniques and creative processes through unique experiences.
The 2023 program brings an eclectic group of artists to the resort. Visual and sketch artist Jessie Haring and painter Kathy Mazur were onsite as artists during May, and Ohio artist Sarah Royer is visiting in June. July and August showcase the works of returning glass blower Barbara Yerace and oil painter Hannah Steele. Program newcomer, Carrie Lacey Boerio, will be at the resort in August to delight with her nature paintings. The bright and colorful works of Monty Montgomery will be in the studio and gallery for six weeks in August and September, and Dorit Brauer returns in September to share her multi-dimensional talents.
Don Smith, the resort’s favorite wood turner, visits in October along with Yelena Lamm, who will share the beauty of animals with our guests and members. Landscape painter Michael Miller returns to Nemacolin this year in November, joined by Wendy Warner who will continue to build on her life’s dream. Don Smith will be back to close out the year with his lathe in December.
The Artist in Residence studio is located near PJ’s Ice Cream Parlor and Kids Club. Hours for each artist vary, but guests and members with reservations to visit the resort are encouraged to reach out to the Art Department for a curated, informational session or private class with an artist. To do so, please call 724.329.6316, or email the Art Department. To be considered for a future residency at Nemacolin, please connect with the art director through either means.
