35 Magical Years: A Letter From Nemacolin Owner Maggie Hardy

35 magical years

Nothing is Impossible was the mindset of my father, Joseph A. Hardy III, when he purchased Nemacolin for me in 1987. It’s now 35 years later, and that perspective is a foundational part of the Real Life Magic of Nemacolin.

Welcome to The Nemacolin Times, a place of endless inspiration and your place to discover what makes Nemacolin extraordinary. It’s here you’ll unearth the heartbeat of our resort. It’s where you’ll hear more about what’s happening, what’s on the horizon, what’s whimsical, and what’s fun.

You’ll learn insider information and tips for an enchanted getaway. You’ll hear about upcoming events and what adventures you may have missed (until your next stay, of course), and The Times will be your passport to what makes Nemacolin stand out from the rest of the best in hospitality.

I just wanted to fish, and Dad wanted to find me a place to do so. An auction of a former hunting preserve with a lodge, airstrip, tennis court, pool, and golf course was his answer to my future. Dad’s vision became my big vision, and I’ve shared and expanded on this with my son, PJ Magerko, too. The year 2022 not only marks the 35th anniversary as a family-owned resort, it marks the 20th year of my oversight of our family business at Nemacolin. Family means everything to me. Our associates and our members are a part of this growing family, and 35 years of welcoming guests to the resort have made our overnight guests a part of the family, too.

I could not be more excited for what is to come. We’re embarking on a multi-million-dollar expansion of an associate neighborhood that will include housing, a market, a pub, and a recreation facility. We’re on the cusp of renovations to guest and common spaces in The Lodge [now The Grand Lodge] that will offer imaginative innovations and butler service. And guests will soon see enhancements in the offerings at The Chateau.

And look at what we’ve done in the last year: We opened The Peak — our year-round hub of entertainment and adventure. We elevated Mystic Rock with bunker and tee box renovations, and we’ve launched a state-of-the-art golf academy that rivals the top instructional venues in the world.

I could not be more excited for what is to come.
Maggie Hardy, Owner and CEO of Nemacolin
The Hardy Family

Reinvesting in Nemacolin is something I’ve done for 35 years, and there are no limits to what we’ll do to expand upon our reputation as a top destination in southwestern Pennsylvania and in the eastern United States. Condé Nast, Forbes, AAA, Travel + Leisure Co., Golf Digest, Golfweek … we’ve received accolades from the best of the best, and there is truly something for everyone at Nemacolin.

For those of you who’ve been a part of Nemacolin from the early days, you’ve seen many transitions, upgrades, and opportunities, and I’m grateful for your steadfast support. For those of you who are newer to the fun, whimsical, upscale, and refreshed Nemacolin, welcome to the family, and welcome to The Nemacolin Times.

Sincerely,
Maggie
